Your V-Day Outfit Guide
Posted on 12 February 2018
Even the most devoted of minimalists can have a hard time settling for a single Valentine’s-worthy combination to dazzle their partner in crime – with so many versatile options, it’s hard enough to choose an outfit for any date, let alone the one on such a special occasion.
However, as always, simplicity is the answer to most style conundrums, and we can take a look at a few timeless, effortless blends that will fit perfectly with the mood of the day and your particular circumstances. And yes, there will be plenty of pink!
The little red date dress
It’s no coincidence that a fashion icon such as Bill Blass said: When in doubt, wear red. And this rings true in particular for such a romance-laden occasion such as February the 14th, so don’t hesitate to bring out your most fiery red your wardrobe hides.
A red velvet dress is not a piece for the faint of heart, so wear it with your most alluring black pumps or ankle boots, and a chick black jacket that will add an urban note of rebellious simplicity to your already elegant mix. Add to that a touch of the forever-favorite smoky-eye and some lip balm to care for your winter-struck pout, and you’re good to go, whether you’re staying in for a romantic dinner, or you’re going to a fabulous restaurant.
Sporty for a movie marathon
Having a girls’ night in and all set with a batch of movies such as La La Land, Serendipity or Sleepless in Seattle? That calls for some serious creativity to ensure comfort, quirky humor and of course, style, so you should bring out your coziest knitted sweater worthy of a February evening in, paired preferably with your goofiest pajama or those crop shorts you’ve been saving for a special comfy occasion.
The most wonderful perk of staying in with your besties for the night is that you can spend some time boding while trying on different makeup combinations, to munching on pop-corn and enjoying some wine with your favorite movies on the side.
Denim equals casual
Even if you do have a date for Valentine’s Day, it doesn’t mean you will have to spend the evening in a crowded restaurant, especially if you’ve just started dating. So, a cup of coffee or cocoa sounds like a more appropriate and laid-back option that deserves an equally cool, but memorable look.
High waisted, low-cut, skinny, boyish or distressed, a pair of jeans is a capsule wardrobe essential that can easily be worn with your best pair of heels, flats or sneakers, whatever your mood may bring. Bring out your most alluring red lip, a touch of nourishing concealer to hide blemishes, and a hygge-inspired jumper to complete your look.
Bubblegum, candy, watermelon, taffy, anyone?
You cannot have too much pink for Valentine’s Day, no matter which particular hue you have a secret crush on, or what type of garment you own in this color. You can go for a black and pink mix to add a punk edge to your girly vibe, a splash of navy blue that makes for a perfect pink partner, or go all-out with that delicate tone and pair it with pure white.
All shades of pink lend themselves beautifully to a floral pattern, so if you’d like to choose something more vivid and lively, then a flirty floral pink dress can bring a wave of spring into your date, and with the help of classic pearls and vintage shoes, you’ll be the essence of twitterpated for your Valentine.
No matter if you spend this particular day with a date, with your best friends, your family or alone, keep in mind that love truly is the best excuse to wear pink. And as Carrie Bradshaw once put it: “And we were dressed from head to toe in love, the only label that never goes out of style.”
